In Hawaiian culture, "Mana" is spiritual energy of power and strength, it exists in all objects and persons. In December 2019 I visited Kauai for the first time. The emerald valleys, sharp mountain spires, jagged cliffs, the colorful fawns, and diverse flora captured my imagination and renewed my senses. I was immediately captivated by the majestic and healing power of Mother Nature.
Hawaiians encourage attuning to the spirit that is found in nature. They see divinity in the forces of nature ocean, volcano, wind, rain, and moon and believe that the same spirit is present in all living things and all activities of living. A deity presides over every aspect of life and our divine ancestors are engaging in all activities offering healing and protection.
This was a spontaneous "girls trip" planned during the undercurrent of the death of a mutual childhood friend. After someone close dies, you realize how important it is to truly live and do what you love. Although I had been to Hawaii many times, this was my first time painting on the islands.
This series flowed out effortlessly, as I was overcome with an extrasensory perception of a unifying mystical "mana" that guided and inspired me.
